I made this post on IG yesterday:
now, peep the one comment;
(and PLEASE peep how IG automatically hid this low vibe commentary).
this is pitiful to me.
because instead of becoming valuable to artists so that they get something out of using his beats, he's crying a river under my post.
And I don't mean this to be harsh, that's just literally what's happening. I'd know; I used to do the same exact thing.
But I bothered to learn how to make music for a job and not just for internet clout; so I really don't relate with bro at all on any level.
in fact, on this same app, at the same time, an artist was buying a beat from me (one of the many artists I connected with and served yesterday).
Is this magic?
yes.
And I will teach it to you if you'll pay attention - starting now 🧠.
If you care about looking cool, use the old Youtube method (and click off this page before you waste anymore time reading).
BUT....
If you care about making an impact with your music and earning money, use the method I'll teach you in this newsletter.
To be clear, the old method still works (and can be leveraged) 👇
(this beat started slow but now pulls hundreds of views and dozens of sales per month)
But you have to have a massive account with backlogged content (video and music) in this genre.
don't get me wrong...
you can (and should) build/scale an account so you too can have a large, tenured internet presence.
(the "1000 USD per Month is Achievable for Any internet producer who tries" full course shows you how to do that).
because if you pay attention to the space, you'll see that only producers with tenure AND/OR big accounts can still post type beats for successful results.
And the only "exceptions" are those guys who are clearly buying views/view botting; we don't have time to discuss gimmicks in this post so believe what you want, but please use awareness.
But even with a quality/tenured account, the truth still remains the same 👇
the real way type beats will sustain success is over the passage time (with the support of your account growth). It is NOT a boom/bust strategy and virality is meaningless:
(this beat started slow, but is now picking up a lot of steam in views and sales).
again, this pretty much only works if you have a big account.
And don't worry; I already checked for you, bro.
I tested the YT type beats strategy for 90 straight days with a new account at the beginning of the year (2024). My results were abysmal, at best:
thank God I was testing a much better play concurrently, otherwise the time and beats invested into YT would have been completely wasted.
The new 'type beats' play
at the same time, I was dropping these same beats on a new Spotify account.
And the results were much more promising:
I was posting beats daily on YT and getting 2 views per track most of the time (no matter what I did).
But these same beats would pull in 100+ streams on Spotify, yet I was only posting once a week. I ended up with so many from YT that I had to start posting them in album compilations on Spotify (which also got way more listenership then on YT):
I already knew the power of creating independent catalog as a producer; my main Spotify has well over a million streams from just my solo beat production!
but, even with this new account, the results were amazing.
it went from 0 to 300+ listeners in less than 2 months!
And guess what? All these streams were monetized.
While I was on Youtube fighting tooth and nail for a crumb of watch time on my way to the 3,000 hours required to become a monetized YT partner,
Spotify was letting me get paid for each stream right away.
And pay me they did 😎.
This is the new 'type beats' play.
Instead of waiting 3000 hours (and 500 subscribers), pay for a distributor and start making money with your beats now.
And the benefits of the play outweigh the costs of paying for distribution and the learning curve of DSP releases:
- YouTube is not optimized for music uploads; but Spotify and other DSPs are.
- You’ll be making YT money forever before they start paying you.
- There are tools you can leverage for real growth right now on Spotify;
- Playlists
- Collabs
- Organic traffic
#1 in the list above is particularly important for you to understand.
YouTube created YouTube Music. All of YouTube is Google.
Google is a robot that can tell the difference between a song and video content.
This is why my type beats show up on my YT music profile, and why they automatically link to my DSP releases (Google is a smart mf robot yo).
The point is that music content is not weighed equally to video content. You can fight this or you can get with the program and grow.
You need to be mature. You need to use the platforms for the things they are purposed for.
Use YouTube Music and Spotify for song releases.
And use long form video content on YouTube (and TikTok/IG) to display/share your music.
(the music you DSP will show up on your channel automatically if you have your account linked to your distributor - YT SEO for this is good if you understand internet congruency).
You want to be an early adopter here!
Spotify and distributors are constantly harassed for 'screwing over' musicians in payouts (this leads to quiet a few suits).
The point is NOT to focus on the doomer BS people like to harp on when stuff like this is made public.
The important thing is the reaction of the platform.
Usually, smart companies try to offset bad press with initiative programs for loyal/proactive users.
This changes moral which eveuntually changes the overall public perception.
Spotify is trying their best to be a smart company.
Be an early adopter. There are benefits to this;
- Listenership is more loyal than viewership 🔑.
- Immediate payouts.
- No Youtube neckbeards in the comments.
- Better SEO for music content (music supports video, instead of video support music like on YT)
SO...
Here's how to monetize your type beats right now:
- Create distro account - $20, discount w/ my code (or anyones code, take advantage of free money).
- Upload 2-4 times a month (try to space it out evenly)
- Collab with producers/artists that are similar in vibe and listenership.
- Get ‘features’ from bigger producers and artists.
- Playlist, playlist, playlist.
